Chennai, Nov 24 - Tamil Nadu Thursday banned the screening of "Dam 999" in the wake of widespread protests against the movie that is seen as a pro-Kerala stand in the Mullaperiyar Dam case pending in the Supreme Court.

"'Dam 999', the movie that creates a fear among the public about the Mullaperiyar Dam, is banned from being screened in Tamil Nadu," said a terse statement by Chief Secretary Deberanath Sarangi.
Political parties in Tamil Nadu -- DMK, MDMK, PMK and others -- had voiced their opposition to the screening in the state of the controversial movie which was set for release Friday.
The government's decision comes a day after Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to advise the Kerala government "not to venture upon a new dam" and also not to whip up a sense of fear among the public about the safety of the Mullaperiyar Dam.
The Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association Wednesday declared that the movie will not be screened by its members.
Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been at loggerheads over the Mullaperiyar Dam, built under an agreement signed in 1886 between the then maharaja of Travancore and the British administration.
The dam, located in Kerala's Idukki district, serves Tamil Nadu, which is demanding that its height be raised from 136 feet (41.5 m) to 142 feet (43 m) to meet the increasing demand of water for irrigation.
Kerala, however, is seeking construction of a new dam, saying the existing structure had outlived its life. (IANS)

Mumbai, Nov 24 - Kangana Ranaut has been on a roll this year with a long line-up of releases like "Tanu Weds Manu", "Game", "Double Dhamaal" and "Rascals". And the 24-year-old says 2012 will also be a landmark year for her.

"In 2011, a very important film of mine like 'Tanu Weds Manu' came and even 'Double Dhamaal' did well. Even those films which didn't do too well, my work was appreciated in them. So, it could be a landmark year for me," said Kangana at the launch of an eye wear here.
"And now the kind of films I have signed... I have already signed big franchises like 'Ishqiya', 'Krrish', and 'Tanu Weds Manu'... so I have good projects... even 2012 could be a landmark year for me," she added.
The list consists mostly of sequels, but Kangana is not complaining.
"It is just coincidence. I have been quite lucky to have such franchises that are definitely going to get a lot of attention and good opening weekends because the earlier sequences have been so popular and successful," she said.
Kangana's last release was "Miley Na Miley Hum" opposite debutant Chirag Paswan.
She will start 2012 with the release of "Tezz". Directed by Priyadarshan, the film also stars Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, Mohanlal and Ajay Devgan.
After debuting with 2006 movie "Gangster - A Love Story", Kangana also featured with Hrithik Roshan in "Kites" and won National Award for her performance in "Fashion".(IANS)

The 29-year-old singer, who is currently dating her former agent Jason Trawick recently read Don Miguel Ruiz’s ‘The Mastery of Love - A Practical Guide To The Art of Relationship’.
“The last book I read was ‘The Mastery Of Love’,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
“It’s basically an analysis of love and what it means to love.”
“It goes through all the different aspects of love. Who you are as a person, knowing yourself before you even attempt to love anyone else, that sort of thing. It’s really well-written and thought-provoking.”
Though the book did not teach her anything new but it did manage to remind her of some attitudes and feelings she previously had.
“It’s very cool. It’s not so much about learning something, it’s one of those things where you already know this stuff, but it’s good to instil it in yourself again,” she added. (ANI)

New Delhi, Nov 24 - The title of Zee TV's new show "Hitler Didi" has upset the US-based Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which wants the channel to give it a less offensive title.

"The name Hitler doesn't belong in the title of a soap opera, and we think the producers of this program have made a terrible error in judgment that can only be remedied with a title change," Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, said in a statement published on the League's website.
"Hitler was an anti-Semite, fascist dictator and mass murderer responsible for the annihilation of European Jewry. That millions of soap opera fans in India are now hearing and talking about a program with the name 'Hitler' on a daily basis is shocking. This is a terrible trivialization of a name freighted with the taint of the Nazi Holocaust," he added.

The show has Rati Pandey in the lead role of "Hitler Didi", who is a strict disciplinarian and has a no-nonsense attitude with her family.
ADL's objection to "Hitler" was conveyed in a letter to Punit Goenka, Managing Director & CEO, and Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Zee Entertainment.
"Let's preserve the name 'Hitler' as a villain of incomparable evil and not trivialize his legacy or the Holocaust with a serial TV title. We strongly urge you to reconsider the choice of title and rename your show," the letter read.
The programme, which went on air Nov 7 on Zee TV in India, is also being carried on the network's affiliates in other countries, including the US.
When contacted, the channel said it had not relased an official statement on the issue.(IANS)

Patna, Nov 24 - Sushil Kumar, the first to win Rs. 5 crore on "Kaun Banega Crorepati 5", has turned down an offer to enter the reality show "Bigg Boss" for the sake of his image as an youth icon.

"I was approached by the officials of the Endemol India and offered a place in 'Big Boss', but I refused," said Sushil. "More than any thing, my image is important for me. I don't want to do anything that affects my image."

Endemol India has been producing "Big Boss" that comes on Color channel. In the reality show, celebrities from different walks of life are locked inside a house for 14 weeks.
The fifth season of the show, which went on air Oct 2, sees a mixed gag bag of the aggressive and argumentative celebs like Akashdeep Saigal, Amar Upadhyay, Siddharth Bharadwaj, Pooja Missra, Shraddha Sharma, Mahek Chahal, Juhi Parmar, Pooja Bedi, Shonali Nagrani, and porn star Sunny Leone.
"If I joined 'Big Boss' and stayed there for some days, it would have changed my mindset and diverted me from my goal," the 27-year-old told IANS.
Sushil is happy to be the brand ambassador for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee SCheme (MNREGS) and said: "It is a matter of pride for me to work for common people."
Before winning the top prize in KBC hosted by mega star Amitabh Bachchan, Sushil worked as a computer operator for the MNREGS in Motihari, his native town in East Champaran district of Bihar.
The 27-year-old is married and lives in a large joint family with five brothers, five nieces and a nephew.(IANS)

However, the movie Desi Boyz is a family entertainer and director Rohit Dhawan wanted the Censor Board to give at least U/A certificate. But CBFC regional officer JP Singh turned down his request. Now, Rohit is very sad that the 'A' certificate would curtail his potential audience-profile drastically.
