Produced by Company Pictures for Channel 4, the first seven-episode series aired weekly on Tuesday nights at 10pm from 13 January 2004. The comedy drama, centred on British underclass and working class culture, has been accorded critical acclaim by various sections of the British media, including The Sun newspaper and Newsnight Review on BBC Two.The programme was created and partially written by Paul Abbott, who is also the programme's executive producer. The second half of series eight resumed on 30 August 2011 on Channel 4 and concluded on 25 October 2011.Series 8 began on 10 January 2011, and is the longest run to date, with 22 episodes. Channel 4 broke Series 8 into two parts, with Episodes 1–13 being shown between 10 January – 8 March 2011 and Episodes 14–22 aired during late summer 2011.The second half of series 8 resumed transmission on 30 August 2011, finishing with episode 22 on 25 October 2011.Series 9 began filming in May 2011 continuing the lengthened 22 episode format,beginning on 9 January 2012.On 11 July 2011 the TV channel Dave stated they would be showing Shameless from series 1–7, but only series 1 and 2 ended up being shown.The show has been renewed for a ninth series which will be begin in 9 January 2012.In April 2005, the programme's first series won the Best Drama Series category at the British Academy Television Awards. It was also nominated for Best British Drama at the National Television Awards 2007, but lost out to Doctor Who. Shameless won an award at the Royal Television Awards Society North West Awards 2007 where it beat Coronation Street to the Best Continuing Drama Award.The role of Frank was originally given to Sean Gallagher, but then it was thought he was too young to play the character. It cost makers Company Pictures £100,000 to re-shoot the scenes already filmed with David Threlfall as a replacement.

Storyline:
The story of a young group of siblings pretty much abandoned by their parents, surviving by their wits - and humor - on a rough Manchester council estate. Whilst they won't admit it, they need help and find it in Steve, a young middle class lad who falls for Fiona, the oldest sibling, and increasingly finds himself drawn to this unconventional and unique family. Anarchic family life seen through the eyes of an exceptionally bright fifteen year old, who struggles to come of age in the context of his belligerent father, closeted brother, psychotic sister and internet porn star neighbors.

Episode Summary:
Micky ends up becoming the victim of a gay bashing, leaving him mentally and physically scarred whilst enjoying a night out with the boys. Carl falls for Clem on the night out. Aidan has a new group of older friends, headed by gang leader Frasier Kane. Events end up spiraling out of control one evening on the estate and Aidan is faced with a life-changing decision. Ruby Hepburn shows up on the estate and is revealed as being Mimi's niece.
