So who is next for the champ?
Well, the wheels begin turning in motion to crown a new number one contender this week on Impact.
Four matches -- three singles bouts and one battle royal -- are held to help determine who faces off against Roode next and we'll also get a three-way Knockouts title match.
Courtesy of TNAsylum, check out full spoilers for Thursday's (May 17) episode after the jump.
Star-divide
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode starts the show off, cutting a promo about his victory at Sacrifice over Rob Van Dam. He wants to throw a party celebrating his record-breaking title run and calls Hulk Hogan out to confirm it. Hogan instead announces next week will be Open Fight Night and Roode will have to defend his title.
The challenger will be determined by a series of matches tonight and then a four-way match next week. What's with Hogan's obsession with four-way matches these days?
In the first match, Bully Ray defeats Rob Van Dam.
The second match is actually a 10-man battle royal which is won by AJ Styles. Afterwards, Styles tries to explain the situation with Dixie Carter but is interrupted by new tag team champs, Christopher Daniels and Kazarian. They bust out an iPad and show a video of the TNA Triple Crown winner and Carter absonding into a hotel room together. The plot thickens~!
Gail Kim retains her Knockouts title by defeating Velvet Sky and Brooke Tessmacher.
The third match to determine who moves onto the four-way dance next week is a Sacrifice rematch between Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson, which "The Charismatic Engima" wins.
The main event sees Kurt Angle defeat Samoa Joe to advance to next week's title contender bout. Roode was providing commentary during the match and had some words with his potental challenger afterwards. Eventually, the three other participants came out and all stared each other down.
Providing the wrestling itself isn't too bad, this sounds like a decent episode of Impact. A nice narrative is weaved throughout the entire episode and it builds nicely into the week next.
